The Koi Collection - New Fish House
I checked out The Koi Collection's new fish house which has now been completed. Ken and team have been working hard to get this up and running.
Previously this was a singular 20,000gallon system and Ken says that although a wonderful show pond, being relatively easy to maintain, he felt as if the pond never quite hit its stride it terms of sales. This was the third 20,000 gallon show pond built on site (yes third) and Ken claims that it was always a difficult pond to sell from and furthermore net!
The decision was made to divide the pond into five smaller ponds and build a fish house over the top. This has really transformed its use Ken tells me, 'Fish House 1' as it has now been named, has become one of the main sales areas and houses a large number of very competitively priced koi to suit all pockets.
The Ponds are all filtered by gravity fed Nexus 320 units, returning via huge Bubble Beads and finally shower filters. The ponds are heated via heat exchangers but the fish house also has radiators and a very well placed log burner. Mr Wilkie certainly doesn't do things by halves.
Ken is planning an open event when the climate allows to show off the handy work and the stunning collection of newly quarantined Koi.
