Trade News - September '24
Hello Koi Keepers,
I'm finding it hard to process we're nearing the end of September - where does the time go?! However, as we edge into Autumn, plenty is going on within the trade to keep tabs on. As the Harvest season arrives, new koi are on the horizon, and dealers often promote sales or open days to shift the last of summer stock, so it's great for a bargain if that's up your street!
Once again, I've combined videos and write-ups as I managed to nab a few trade sponsors at The All England Koi Show - let's dive in!
P.S. The Koi in the display picture is a stunning Ai Goromo owned by Kim's Koi and bred by Beppu Fish Farm - it won Best in Variety (85bu) at the All Japan Koi Show 2024.
Selective Koi Sales:
Avenue Fisheries: A word from Pam and Steve regarding their Growing On Competition and Sale Weekend... which starts TOMORROW!

We will be running our customary free raffle with the prize being a £500 voucher redeemable for koi of the winner's choice.
BAR-B-Q
Mark will be running our barbecue for both days of the sale weekend and look forward to seeing you.
POND CONSTRUCTION
We design & build all types of pond from small formal water features up to small lakes. However we are best known for our high quality specialist koi ponds. The weekend is a great oppurtunity to see what we do and chat to us about pond building projects.
We thank you for your continued custom and we look forward to seeing you this weekend.
Koi R Us: I caught up with Terry recently, and he is currently cataloguing the koi stock on-site with new videos ready for his trip to Japan. Terry is based in Kent and caters for all pockets. He also has a lovely setup, so if anything in the teaser video catches your eye, he says to "give him a call." Well, you heard the man...

Kusuri: As I shared in previous trade news, Kusuri has launched a new product. They have kindly shared with me some literature that may be worth a read for those looking to explore another food option. Enjoy the read... (click to expand)
Shosha Koi:
I visited Mike and Lee for the Shosha Koi Open Day and made a short YouTube video about my trip. Also, they have plenty of koi available and some great sales leading up to the Autumn Harvest.
West Midlands Koi: Lee has been working behind the scenes on numerous customer projects and trying to finish his new premises, which are starting to take shape. He has also been selling and installing the AquaKing Red Label drum filters. I bumped into Lee at the Holland Koi Show as he was on the Red Label stand, meeting many of the customers in the EU.
Some pictures from Lee's recent factory tour...
If you're in the market for a new drum filter or are considering building a new pond, it's always worth seeing equipment in the flesh, and dealers like Lee who offer these opportunities are worth their weight in gold. As much as we like web sales, buying in person gives you the peace of mind that you have someone who knows their onions and can provide the after-sales service required. For more info, follow the link.
Beacon Koi: Simon and Dean are still welcoming visitors to view their koi stocks. They're always sneakily adding new koi, so it's worth keeping tabs on their website. Most of the stock ponds are outdoors and run at ambient temperatures, so for those looking for end-of-season purchases, they're a good place to keep in mind.
I've attached a few snapshots of available koi and some pics I took when I visited the gents earlier in the year. They were having a koi photo session, but it gives a nice look at their ponds and how they work together. I've said it before, but there’s a deceptive amount of stock on site, and the gents are always ready to help you hunt for that unique koi.
Cuttlebrook Koi Farm:
World of Nishikigoi - Well, just when I thought things were going to slow down! September has flown by with the Mid Staffs and The All England Koi Shows taking place, plus a few dealer open days (including Shosha Koi's Grand Opening). I've also been chin-deep in magazine production. They say there's no rest for the wicked!
Volume Six looks exciting, with content I know most koi lovers will adore. We've got some excellent content from the breeders in Japan, including the continuation of our ever-popular interview series - but you'll have to wait to see who it is! Some stunning ponds are featured, we've extended our Q&A section to include more contributors and topics, our health section is brimming with helpful tips, and we continue our new series for beginners in Koi Keeping 101. On top of that, we have all the other content you expect from us, including koi appreciation and development, in-depth koi-keeping articles, judging challenges, health visits, nutritional tips and more!
If you haven't yet subscribed to World of Nishikigoi - it's never too late! Hit the link below, join the community and secure some high-quality printed content!
https://www.worldofnishikigoi.com/product-page/yearly-subscription If you want to order the collection of back issues, I have now updated "The Stack." It includes all five volumes and discounted bulk delivery. It saves you money if you live in the UK and considerably more money if you live overseas - check it out below.
The last UK koi show of the season is now upon us. The Junior Koi Show hosted by The Birmingham and West Midlands Koi Club takes place on the 5th/6th of October and needs the support of koi keepers or anyone interested in koi. How? Support with your attendance!
If you're free, it would be great to see you at the show because once this show ends, we face the long dark months of winter, so it's best to get a last fix in!
As I said last time, the show is open, meaning anyone can enter their koi, even if they are not a club member. The Junior part means that the largest koi allowed to enter is 65cm (size 5). It's a great way to open up the competition and for smaller koi to win BIG prizes. It was a successful format for the South East Club, but after that show's demise, the Birmingham lot decided to take up the mantle.
I'm sure it will be a great weekend, and I think it promises to be a good show as it develops. If you know anyone interested in attending, please share the information and help spread the word!
Best Wishes & Happy Koi Keeping,
Liam
